Description: Beautiful young lady wearing an off-the shoulder pleated white satin gown. The bodice is shirred, sleeves short, and the V-shaped waistline is barely visible. The subject is looking directly at the viewer, and her dark brown hair is parted in the middle and looped to the back of her head, covering her ears. She wears no jewelry. The shape of the portrait is oval, although the frame is a rectangle.
History of Work:
Notes: Tennessee Smith County Bible and Tombstone Records at the Tennessee State Library and Archives states that subject was the daughter of Robert and Alethia Allen. Miss Alethia B. Allen died on July 6, 1854, at age 19 years, and her obituary appeared in the Daily Nashville True Whig newspaper on July 8, 1854. This can be accessed on microfilm also at the Tennessee State Library and Archives.
