Description:Sann D'Shiel Black is seated in a chair wearing her wedding dress. Her left arm lies to her side revealing a gold bracelet and her right hand rests in her lap with a shere veil over her righ shoulder. There is a black band around her neck and a broach attached at the vertex of the plunging neckline of the dress. Her reddish brown hair is pulled back and surrounds her head.
History:

Sanna D'Shiel Black (1880-1969) was the wife of Alexander Pitzer Ward (1879-1954) and sister-in-law of the artist. Her father was the noted Tennessee doctor, Charles Alban Black, her grandfather was the Rev. Sam Black of Sam Black Church, WV, and great-great granddaughter of Ensign William "Grandpa Billy" McClung (1738-1833) who was the first English settler in West Virginia.The painting hung in Sanna and Pit's home in San Jose until Sanna's death and now hangs in her grandson's home.
