Description:Gentleman half-figure, facing forward and wearing black coat, two brass buttons, white collar, and black stock. His right hand is in the front of the jacket. Full hair--curly hair on forehead.
History of Work: The portrait has been restored and the frame regilded.

Owner received from a great-aunt, Janie May Smith, of Charleston, South Carolina.
Notes:James Lawrence Brandt was the father-in-law of Andrew Matzurie Smith, who originally was mis-identified on this site as the subject of this portrait. Brandt was a shipwright in Charleston, South Carolina.
