Description:Subject is standing facing three-quarter right with a top hat in his right hand and his left hand resting on a green cloth-covered table. There is a rose chair just behind him, a column to the far left of the painting and what appears to be a view out a window or possibly a landscape painting just to the right of the column. The subject is wearing a black suit, sateen vest, black tie and white shirt. He has a moustache and his collar-length dark hair is parted low on his left.
History of Work:Painted at Mossy Creek, Tennessee (now Jefferson City) about 1861 by Samuel M. Shaver
