Description:Oval bust-length miniature in a rectangular frame of a man with short silver hair, large brown eyes, and a light beard shadow. He is dressed in revolutionary-era formal attire: black open coat and white tie and shirt. The background is a light blue.
History:Painted from life.
Notes:Subject (1750-1795) bought land in 1776 from Thomas and Martha Jefferson, "The Oaks." The Burtons were originally from Wales before they moved to Hanover County, VA and then to AL. See file for more biographical information.
