Description:Three-quarter portrait of seated lady (in red armchair) wearing a dark dress with a large lace collar at the v-neck. She wears a white bonnet over her dark hair, and the ribbons from the bonnet are loose to her chest. Both hands are visible, and a book seems to be in her left hand.
History of Work:Copy of life-size portrait in house on Beacon Hill in Boston, MA Belonged to another descendant - Current owner of portrait is great-granddaughter of subject.
Notes:Subject was wife of Gardner Colby for whom Colby College in Watertown, Maine was named.
