Description:Below the knee slightly right profile portrait of Cortez, who is dressed in period formal wear. His right hand rests on a table with a a pair of gloves and plumed hat. A coat of arms with ribbon banners is in the upper left.
History of Work:Copy of a painting from the Hospital of Jesus, founded by Cortez in Mexico City, Mexico. This copy was given to Sarah Polk by Gen. W. J. Worth, a division commander during the Mexican War.
Has undergone conservation treatment in 19??.
