Description:Half length frontal portrait. Subject is wearing an off- the-shoulder black dress with a black lace fichu. The sitter's right arm is resting on a white cloth covered table.
History: Painting descended through the Acklen family until it returned to the Belmont Mansion collection.
Notes:Sarah Hightower Hayes (1796-1871) was from Williamson County and married Oliver Bliss Hayes. This painting and its companion portrait of her husband were commissioned by their daughter Adelicia and hung at her Belmont estate.
