Description:Almost knee-length seated view of a man with a receding hairline dressed in grey pants, buttoned white vest and shirt, black tie and unbuttoned dark grey coat with 3 brass buttons visible. His right thumb is inserted into his pants pocket and his left arm rests on a book lying on a table. The chair back, visible on the left, is red.
History:
Notes:Subject (1812-1849) is buried in the Nashville City Cemetery. He was in a position of authority at what was/became Central State, a facility on Nashville's Murfreesboro Road for mentally ill people.
