Description:Seated woman in a blue velvet dress with white lace collar and lace edging on the three-quarter length sleeves. She is seated in a red-upholstered armchair facing three-quarter left, but with her head turned to look directly at the viewer. Her dark hair is parted in the middle and swoops back to conceal her ears, and her hands are resting in her lap. There is a gold drape behind her and a painted landscape with sunset to her left.
History of Work:
Notes:Mrs. William Law Murfree (1816-1902). Maiden name Fanny Priscilla Dickenson, daughter of "Squire" David Dickinson and Fanny N. Murfree, she was the first cousin of her husband, whom she married in 1843.
