History of Work: | This portrait was commissioned by the Board of Trust in 1956 and is a copy of an earlier portrait by the same artist, Goode Davis. The portrait hangs in Kirkland Hall on the campus. |
Notes: | Born in west Tennessee, J.P. Norfleet graduated from Vanderbilt in 1899 and became a Memphis cotton factor. He became a Trustee on the University's Board of Trust in 1916 and served as its president in 1954 - 55. He became a Life Trustee in 1956.
