Description:Waist-length of Polk wearing a white high-colored shirt, black cravat, black vest and black cape, with a maroon drape in the background.
History of Work:Painted in Washington DC at of cost of $200.00. According to Polk's diary, he began sitting for the portrait on Jan. 21, 1846 and it was completed on Feb. 9, 1846.
