Description:The portrait is from the waist seated in a chair with subject wearing a red velvet low-cut dress. Over her left shoulder is a view of a mountain and over her right is a red curtain.
History of Work:Portrait is a reproduction of the 1846 portrait by George P. A. Healy.
Notes:Sarah Childress Polk's brother lived in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Mrs. Polk's nephew married a daughter of Major Lewis Maney and Rachel Adaline Cannon Maney.
