Description: Full-length portrait of a young woman facing right profile in front of an elaborate fireplace located to her right. She is wearing a large black hat which leaves a little of her red hear visible and holds a black parasol with her right hand. Her shoes, peeking out from the hem of her long pink dress, are also dark in color. The dress has three-quarter length sleeves, a high neckline with a square secondary neckline outlined in a white fabic and decorated with a pink bow. The dress has a long peplum which is trimmed in white lace. her left hand is on her hip, and she is looking down toward the parasol.
History: Brantley Smith (Tennessee, 1874-1947) – Smith studied art in New York at the William Merritt Chase School of Art. Early in his career, Smith had studios in New York City and Newport, R.I. During the winters of the late 1930s and early 1940s, Smith had studios in Boca Raton and Palm Beach, Florida. He taught art at Winchester and Jasper, Tennessee

Owned by her great-grandaughter in Franklin, Tennessee.
