Description:Three-quarter length of subject facing slightly left, looking in that direction also, and resting with his right elbow on a pedestal to his right. He is holding a rolled paper in his right hand. He is wearing a dark coat and has a gold chain criss-crossing his vest. His shirt is pleated white and he has a black bow tie. His dark hair is cut short, and he has a neatly trimmed moustache. A red fringed drape falls to his right and rests on the pedestal.

Notes:Great grandfather of current owner. Subject was born 10 March 1843, Rutherford County, Tennessee; died 24 July 1914, Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Lieutenant Civil War C.S.A. U. S. Congress for 20 years.
