Description:Subject facing slightly right and looking directly at viewer. He is wearing a dark jacket over a dark vest with a visible chain attached to vest button. His shirt is white, and his tie is a pattern of reds and blues. His hair is light brown and parted on his right.
History of Work:Portrait has come down through the Stokes, David and Murfree families.
Notes:Subject was born on December 25, 1889 and died on January 16, 1930. He was raised at Breezemont on the Stokes Farm on Hillsboro Road, Nashville, Tennessee. He graduated from Princeton and Columbia University Law School. He married Katherine Hickman and practiced law in St. Louis prior to his death.
