Description:Man wearing dark suit with vest and a white shirt with black necktie. He is seated in a red upholstered armchair with wood trim and is nearly three-quarter visible. His light-colored hair reveals a receding hairline and he is gazing directly at the observer of the portrait. He has a book (probably the Bible) in his right hand resting on his right knee and his left hand is also visible resting on the left arm of the chair.
History of Work:Portrait commissioned by alumni of Centenary Female College in Cleveland, Tennessee
Notes:Dr. Joseph Stubblefield was a teacher and President of the College from 1885-1905.
