Description:Seated, three-quarter portrait of subject facing three-quarter right and wearing a dark coat over a brown vest. His shirt is white with a loose black tie at his soft collar. His head is turned to look directly at the viewer, and his dark hair is combed back with a widow's peak at the forehead. His right arm rests on the arm of his seat and his hand is slightly closed over the end of that arm.
History of Work:Restored by Ned P. Crouch in Charksville, Tennessee.
Notes:Subject born 9 January 1805 (Orange County, VA) died May 1853 in Mississippi. Son of Richard Henry Taliaferro and Frances Walker Gilmer (Augusta) the daughter of George Rockingham Gilmer. Subject married Sarah Frances Adams 10 November 1825.
