Description:A seated William H. Vanderbilt, balding with full mutton chops, is dressed formally in black suite with white shirt, tie, and vest.
History of Work:Portrait came to the University in 2005 from William H. Vanderbilt, Jr., son of William H. Vanderbilt III, who served as a University trustee from 1963 - 81.
Notes:William Henry Vanderbilt, who inherited the majority of his father's (Cornelius Vanderbilt) fortune, was married to Maria Louisa Kissam. Four of their nine children continued their father's interest in the University which their grandfather has founded.
