Description:Society portrait showing a 36 year old woman, hair in raised bun, in white ball gown with yellow taffeta trim, low bodice, seated in an Egyptian-style arm chair, facing right, holding a white ermine fan, with green curtain behind and a fading sunset in upper left corner.
History of Work:Portrait came to the University in 2002 through the estate of Lorna McClenahan Anderson, great grand daughter of Emily Thorn Vanderbilt Sloane White.
Notes:Emily Thorn Vanderbilt Sloane White was the fifth of nine children born to William H. and Maria Louisa Kissam Vanderbilt. Her husband of 43 years, William Douglas Sloane, died in 1915. She later married diplomat, Henry White.
