Description:Subject is seen waist length with body turned three-quarter right and his head turned to look directly at viewer. He is wearing a white shirt and black tie under what appears to be a many-pocketed, brown leather jacket with suede in a darker brown over the yoke area. His hair, beard, and moustache are all gray, and he is wearing a black hat. Only his right hand is visible.
History:Owners believe Myra Thompson of Spring Hill painted this portrait. However this portrait is signed Myra Thompson while that of Henry Strange Pointer, owned by same family, is signed M R Thompson. Signatures appear to slightly differ. Landscape in artist's family is signed Myra Thompson and the signature is similar to the signature on this portrait. Portrait of above subject is dated the year that subject died. Painting has been in family since it was painted. It was recently restored and is in original frame.
Notes:Subject (b Aug 6, 1838 d Nov 10, 1906) was married to Alice Louise Baugus of Maury County. He fought in the Civil War and worked with General Richard Ewell (married to his cousin) and Major Campbell Brown (his cousin) on agricultural ventures in Maury County. They had seven children, one of whom, Mattie Campbell, married Henry Strange Pointer. Subject is owner's great-grandfather.
