Description:Frame is original black leather-covered; front is now lost and the remaining back half is in a modern black-painted wood frame. Oval of a man with short reddish wavy hair. He has a receding hairline that gives the top of his head a moon-like quality. Dressed in a buttoned dark grey coat, vest, and tie and white high-collared shirt.
History:Painted in NYC or Newport, RI. Subject was the artist's brother. Frame liner has stamped on it: ""J. GURNEY / 707 BROADWAY NY"". J. Prescott Hall built and lived at ""Malbone"" at Newport (see book ""Architectural Heritage of Newport, Rhode Island"" for information about Hall and Lew Gouvernor Morris.
