Description:Near full-length seated frontal view of a middle-aged woman in a long, formal white, off-the-shoulder dress with a lace shawl. Her left hand is raised to her chin, and her dark straight hair is parted in the middle and pulled back. Her face is slightly turned to the left to reveal a right profile. She is seated in an eggplant colored chair and a summer landscape is visible out the window on the image's left side.
History:Restored by Cumberland Art Conservation in the 1980s. *Sitter was married to Kentucky Representative to the U.S. Congress William Jordan Graves during these years, so it is assumed that this dates the creation of the work.
