Description:Three-quarter portrait of subject facing straight ahead, smiling, and looking directly at viewer. His grey hair is parted on his right, and he is wearing a white surplice with red bands at the cuffs, a red vestment, and black stole. There is a large cross pendant hanging from his neck and he has rings on both ring fingers. His left hand holds the crosier, and royal purple shows around the white band at his neck.
History:Portrait was painted posthumously from family photos. The artist used himself as the model for the body and hands. Commissioned by Florence Greenwood, wife of the former Rector of Christ Church Cathedral.
Notes:Subject's full name was George Lazenby Reynolds, Jr. He was born 18 August 1927 in Opelika, Alabama. Subject was ortained Deacon in 1954, priest in 1955, and elected Bishop on January 26, 1985, at the Annual Convention held at Christ Church, Nashville, Tennessee. Consecrated Ninth Bishop of Tennessee on June 15, 1985, at All Saint's Chapel, The University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee. Bishop Reynolds died 1 November 1991 in Nashville and was buried at University Cemetery, Sewanee, Tennessee.
