History:Plaque attached to portrait says "Deacon 1834-1844" "Elder 1844-1857" This portrait of John M. Hill was presented to the church in 1914 by Mrs. John Hill Eakin, widow of John Hilll's nephew and namesake, John Hill Eakin.
Notes:When John Hill died in 1870, his bequest was the largest made to the church up to that time--the "John Hill Fund"--two funds of $10,000.00 each. A portion of the interest on one was to benefit retired ministers and their widows and the interest from the other account was to benefit the poor in his own church and any other poor in the city known to other ministers.
