  • Description:Routon was an artist, musician, horticulturist, and humanitarian in Paris, TN. She was the wife of former state senator Stephen James Routon. Subject is posed bust length, apparently seated three-quarter left, and looking directly at the viewer. Her hair is short, blond, and curly, and she is wearing a long chain necklace extending over the top of her purple-hued dress. The neckline is piped with white.
  • History:The oil painting was a gift from the subject's grandson, the artist. It was unveiled in 2014 at the home of Stephanie Routon Tayloe, where Miss Pearl lived, and it now hangs in the Henry County Courthouse in Paris, TN.
  • Notes:Joseph Routon Jr studied art in New York City at the Art Students League and at the National Academy of Design. Further study was in Philadelphia at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
