  • Description:Frontal view of a seated middle-aged man in business attire. Holding papers in his left hand, his right arm rests on desk with legal books.
  • History:Restored in 1997 by Ned Crouch in Clarksville.
  • Notes:Horace Edward Palmer was born September 26, 1855 and died on June 11, 1912, in Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, Tennessee. He was the son of Brigadier General Joseph Benjamin Palmer (1825-1890) of Civil War fame and his wife, Ophelia Maria Burrus (1835-1856). Horace's mother died when he was just an infant. Gen. Palmer married next Margaret J. Ballentine Mason, widow of William Taylor Mason. Horace Edward married Willie Mason on May 15, 1879, his stepsister and daughter of Margaret J. Ballentine and William Taylor Mason. Horace Edward Palmer became a Murfreesboro attorney and served as mayor of the town from 1885-1887. He was also a Judge in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and also served as a State Court of Appeals Judge in Nashville. Subject is the owner's great-grandfather.
