Four brass buttons are also visible down the front of the coat. His left hand is on his waist, and his right arm is extended and restingon a table (?) surface. His hair is sandy blonde-red. His shirt and tie are white.
Notes: Subject was a Commodore in the U.S. Navy and Commander in Chief of the Pacific fleet. He fired the first gun in the War of 1812.
