  • Description:Waist-length nearly frontal of a man with white hair and a receding hairline. Soft curls are prominent on the center of his forehead. He has wide set large blue eyes, and is dress in a black coat and white shirt and necktie. A gold diamond-shaped object is just above the waist.
  • History:Family lore has it that this is a copy of a portrait by Ralph E.W. Earl, and that the artist worked from the original. The original by Earl was supposedly in the Tennessee State Museum collection and was destroyed by fire, but this seems not to be true since the museum collection has not endured a fire, especially since 1931, the date of this work. Work was restored by Sandor Bodo ca. 1991-92 who said that cheap paint of the Depression Era has caused bubbling and was prone to scratches.
