History:Portrait has come down through the Stokes and Murfree families. The artist is the subject's sister.
Notes:Subject was born on March 13, 1862 and died on November 28, 1948. She lived with her parents at their home, Tulip Grove, in Hermitage, Tennessee until her marriage to Walter Stokes, Sr. After their marriage they lived in Breezemont on the Stokes Family Farm on Hillsboro Road, Nashville, Tennessee.
