  • Description:Head and shoulders of a woman with shiny black hair pulled back in a snood and parted in the middle. She has hazel eyes and is wearing a very low-cut rose gown with a seed pearl medallion clasp on the shoulder of the dress. Her right hand is posed at her chin.
  • History:The portrait of Mattie Ready Morgan was donated to the John Hunt Morgan museum in Lexington, Kentucky by Teenie Hooker Buchtel's son John Buchtel in 2007. He also donated the portrait of Johnnie Hunt Morgan as a child. She was the daughter of Mattie Ready and John Hunt Morgan.
  • Notes:Subject was a native of Murfreesboro and met John Hunt Morgan huring the Civil War. He was killed in the war while she was expecting their baby. She later re-married.
