  • Description:Frame is gilded , chased copper, original. Oval of a young man with light brown hair parted in the middle and combed softly back to each side. Clean-shaven, with large hazel eyes and a strong jawline and chin. He is dressed in a navy blue coat with 5 brass buttons visible, white vest and shirt, and a gold stick pin.
  • History:Painted in Charleston, SC. The curator at the Gibbs Museum in Charleston has attempted to identify the sitter, but without success. The Chattanooga jeweler got it from a picker who bought it at an auction in north Georgia. Exhibited Cheekwood 1992, Huntsville 1996 and Gibbes 2000 Illus. Huntsville catalog.
