Description:Waist-length standing frontal miniature of young man with dark hair looking slightly to his left. His left hand is on his waist, and he is dressed in formal business attire. The column in the left side of the image suggests an outdoor setting. The frame is a dark wood and very elaborate. Signed and dated on the backing paper: "Painted by Geo. H. Hite/Nashville/1836"
History:Purchased from Caldwell Galleries in upstate NY around 1975. Hite is listed as a resident of a hotel on the Nashville City Square for 1832-1834 in a newspaper advertisement. Exhibited in Tennessee State Museum's 1988 "Portrait Painting in Tennessee."
