  • Description:Oval bust-length three-quarter-length right profile miniature of a young man in a dark overcoat, yellow vest, white shirt and black necktie. He has brown wavy hair of moderate length and wide-set brown eyes. The image is set in a metal (gold?) frame and this, in turn, has been set into an octagonal gold-colored wood frame.
  • History:Jim Kelly, former curator for the Tennessee State Museum, examined the work and thought it might be attributed to John Wood Dodge.
  • Notes:Sitter was born 1813 and died 1853 at ""Solitude"" on Mill Creek in Davidson County. He was buried in Mill Creek Baptist Church cemetery. He is the owner's great, great grandfather. His father was Rev. James Whitsitt, pastor of Mill Creek Baptist Church. Sitter married Dicey Ann McFarland 2/21/1839.
