  • Description:Oval bust-length of subject seated on a red upholstered chair with the tufting visible behind his back. He is facing three-quarter left and looking that direction also, to the viewer's right. His dark hair has receded from his forehead, and he has a full beard and moustache. The beard obscures the collar of his white shirt worn under a black coat.
  • Notes:Dr. Armstrong died helping victims in the Yellow Fever epidemic in Memphis.
