History:Older, wide-haired Caucasian male, in a black suit, white shirt and black tie. He is seated in a red arm chair with his left hand holding a pair of eyeglasses. Both elbows are resting on the chair arms. A classical column shaft and base are visible to the viewer's right. The hands are very loosely painted.
Notes:Subject was born in Abingdon, Va. He came to Knox County, TN in 1812. He commanded the Tennessee Volunteers in the Seminole campaign and served on Andrew Jackson's staff.
