History:This portrait is of a matronly woman turned one-quarter to the left. Her hair is dark and she is wearing a green hat with a white plume, three strands of white pearls, and a deep crimson dress. The artist made this copy of his original work that he had created for the King of Bavaria. The painting hung in the artist's parlor in Nashville, Tn during his life time. Notes:Lola Montez was born in Ireland about 1818. She married several times and became the mistress of King Ludwig I of Bavaria, the artist's patron. She was introduced at court in 1847 by the words, "Gentlemen, I present to you my best friend." The King gave her a mansion, titles and 20,000 florins. At the revolution of 1848, the King abdicated and Montez was banished. After arriving in America, she became an actress and author.
