History:This portrait was first identified as James Robertson, but it is now believed to be that of his grandson, James Robertson Napier. The portrait shows a young man in the oval-shaped stretched canvas and in an oval-shaped, gold-colored, plaster on wood frame. He is facing right with his head directed forward. The portrait's condition is considered fair. There are tears in the canvas over the left eye and the right ear. There are patched tears in the coat area. The plaster on the frame is chipped in several places on the frame.
Notes:James Robertson Napier (b.25 August 1800 d. 17 July 1832) was the son of Richard C. Napier and Charlotte Robertson Napier. He married Hannah Van Leer, daughter of Isaac Wayne Van Leer and Elizabeth Culbertson January 20, 1820.
