Description: Portrait of the composer Johannes Brahms, with the Vienna Opera House in the background.
History: The work was a collaboration by Tennessee artist Mrs. S. J. (Pearl) Routon and Warner Sallman, the artist who painted the familiar painting of Christ. "From Paris, Tennessee, Pearl Routon, who passed away in 1963, was a portrait artist who painted the portraits of Gov. Frank G. Clements and his wife and of Gov. James Porter. 'Miss Pearl' is created with being the person who selected the iris to be the State Flower of Tennessee. Her husband, Stephen James Routon, was a state senator in 1957. In 1957, Pearl Routon was featured on Ralph Edwards 'This Is Your Life,' and Gov. Clement appeared on the show to talk about all that she had done for the state. She was the second woman to be named an honorary colonel on the Governor's staff - Dinah Shore was the first."
Notes:Warner Sallman, the collaborator on this work with the Tennessee Artist, Pearl Routon, painted this well-known likeness of Christ.
