  • Description:Portrait of Mrs. Malcolm Joseph Gilchrist (Frances Anne Foster) facing forward, her gaze directed toward the viewer, her arms held at her waist. She wears a white off-the-shoulder dress with puffed sleeves and a pleated neckline. A small white shawl is draped over her arms and across her back. Her dark hair is parted in the middle and covers her ears. In the background there is a landscape.
  • History:Provenance: Formerly in the collection of Sykes, Maltby, Anonymous Collection, Statesboro, Georgia Nelson, David, until Nov. 15, 2014. The artist titled the portrait "Lucilla" when the painting was placed on exhibition in NYC. The portrait is a copy of a mid 19th century portrait of Mrs. Malcolm Joseph Gilchrist of Courtland, Alabama painted by artist W. B. Cooper of Nashville, Tennessee.
