  • Description:Gentlement in dark suit with blue eyes and grey hair and seated in a red upholstered parlor chair.

  • Notes:Dr. Gooch was born September 4, 1800 in Caswell County North Carolina and died November 30, 1853 in Smyrna, Rutherford County, TN. He came to Tennessee in 1818 with his parents, Nathaniel and Martha Tait Gooch. He became a physician and practiced in the LaVergne-Smyrna-Murfreesboro area. He was also a large land owner of 2,435 acres and 899 poles in Rutherford County and Davidson County. Subject married Elizabeth Saunders Gooch on December 8, 1831. He built his home "Goochland" in Smyrna, completing it in 1845. He was the brother to Mrs. Lucinda Tait Gooch Kimbro (already documented on this website).
