History:Owner's paternal great grandfather, Joseph Henry Ware of Stanton TN, was the beneficiary of JB Stanton's only daughter's estate. This painting was then given to his son, William Stanton Ware of Stanton TN, (1870-1947), then passed down to his son William Thomas Ware of Vancouver, Canada. This painting has been in owner's possession in Ottawa, Canada since his father, William Thomas Ware's, death in 1988.
Notes:Joseph Blackwell Stanton Window Detail of JB Stanton Portrait Stanton Window Comparison 1with frame 2detail of window 3comparison of window with modern image of same view Lindsey Gap from Blackberry Mountain The owner states that the cloud covered valley is very likely Lindsey Gap between Cosby and Bluffton looking up the valley towards what is now Hwy 40 as seen from the Blackberry Mountain area. Apparently early Eastern TN landscapes are fairly rare and even more so in Earl paintings, since he was busy with numerous commissions and just didn't have the time.
