Description:The waist-length portrait shows our subject looking to the left. The older gentleman wears a dark jacket with a white shirt. He is a thin man with short , silver hair and a thick mustache
History:This portrait was painted posthumously in 1911 by well known artist W.B. Newman. She was born at Maple Grove near Murfreesboro, TN, studied in Cincinnati, OH and Paris, France, returning to Nashville in 1902, and opened Newman School of Art in 1905.
Notes:Samuel Jackson Keith (1831- 1909) was originally, from Jackson County TN and began life in Nashville as a grocer in 1855. He relocated to New Orleans with his business partners where they has a prosperous business in cotton and tobacco. He returned to Nashville in 1878 where he was president of Fourth National Bank from 1882 until his death in 1909. Contributions include: Vanderbilt Board of Trust , TN Centennial Executive Committee, Mckendree Methodist Church Chairman of the Board of Trustees, President of TN Bankers Association, among many others. He was held of highest regard as a man and as a banker.
