  • Description:Oval portrait of Mr. Green in a black suit with a white shirt and black bowtie.
  • History:Portrait was a gift to the University in 1970 from Bruce I. Crabtree, great grandson of A.L.P. Green. It now hangs in Board of Trust lounge in Kirkland Hall.
  • Notes:Born in East Tennessee, Alexander Little Page Green was a preacher and circuit rider serving Methodist congregations thoughout the Tennessee Conference. Uneducated himself, he became a champion in the movement to establish a Methodist university in Nashville. His dream was realized in the founding of Vanderbilt University. He was actually the Treasurer (1872 - 1874) of the first Board of Trust which was formed under the charter for the Central University before the actual founding gift was given by Cornelius Vanderbilt.
