  • History:Amelia McTyeire's portrait by Miss Hergesheimer was commissioned by the University in 1908 to hang beside her husband's portrait in the chapel of the newly rebuilt College Hall. It hangs today in Kirkland Hall (College Hall renamed in 1937).
  • Notes:Wife of Holland N. McTyeire, Bishop, Methodist Episcopal Church, South (1866 – 89) and first president of Vanderbilt University Board of Trust (1873 – 89). Born in Mobile, AL, Amelia Townsend was the first cousin of Frank Crawford [Vanderbilt], a relationship which led to the founding of Vanderbilt University.
