Named as Chattanooga's "Bishop of Chattanooga" with his love and devotion to a village after the Civil War. During his service as minister, he authored the words inscribed on a circular marble panel mounted over the church's middle porch door: Whosoever enters this church, Remember "it is the house of God," be reverent be quiet and leave it not without a prayer to God for thyself for him who ministers, and those who worship here.
