Notes:8th Pastor: 1873-1924 (first of 3 pastors who each served over 30 ;years), Bachman served over 50 years! Named as Chattanooga's "Bishop of Chattanooga" with his love and devotion to a village after the Civil War. During days of the Yellow Fever Epidemic, he remained at his ministerial post in courage, ministering to the sick and survivors of the devastating dread that "cast it's breath over church and town" to almost destroy the community. Initiated and oversaw construction of Sanctuary and Sunday School Building at McCallie & Douglas in 1909. During his service as minister, he authored the words inscribed on a circular marble panel mounted over the church's middle porch door: Whosoever enters this church, Remember "it is the house of God," be reverent be quiet and leave it not without a prayer to God for thyself for him who ministers, and those who worship here.
