  • Description:Portrait of Richard Henry Barry in seated position. Subject is wearing black coat, vest, white shirt, and tie. Three-quarter-length right profile shows majority of face. Right hand is visible.
  • History:Unsigned. Donated to Travellers Rest by Miss Bernice Barry in 1971.
  • Notes:A Nashville drygoods merchant, Richard H. Barry & Co., married Judge Overton's stepdaughter, Mary Lawson May. He was named in Overton's Will as guardian of his underage children along with Hugh Lawson White, of Knoxville, TN, Mrs. Overton's brother (portraits nos. 620 and 621). Barry died in 1838 leaving four children.
