Notes:Subject was born in 1873 and died 1957. He was born on the W. B. Bate farm at Castalian Springs, TN to Mark and Marie Bates. Graduated from Roger Williams University in 1900. Taught school in Kansas community of Sumner County, Tennessee for 20 years. Taught math at Union High School in Gallatin, and retired after 53 years teaching. He was married to Nora Turner 8 June 1901.
