  • History:Painted in Philadelphia. This is a copy of Malbone's miniature ca. 1803 which was Frances Wade's engagement picture. This miniature passed down to Cushman's granddaughter, who gave it to a friend, who sold it to Ed Sheppard in 1995. Frances Bleecker went on to have nine children. The Malbone miniature was in Philadelphia ca. 1896 and a color picture of it was used as the frontispiece of Anne Wharton Hollingsworth's book "Heirlooms in Miniature." Exhibited at Huntsville 1996; Gibbes 2000. Illus in Huntsville catalog/American Art Review, Vol. VIII, No. 1, 1996, page 135.
