Description:Frame is rectangular stamped metal over wood. An appropriate frame for the time it was painted, but not the original. Gauzy, light brown treatment of a young woman in a simple v-neck cream dress. Her light brown hair is pulled up and has a loose quality.
History:Painted in Philadelphia. This is a copy of Malbone's miniature ca. 1803 which was Frances Wade's engagement picture. This miniature passed down to Cushman's granddaughter, who gave it to a friend, who sold it to Ed Sheppard in 1995. Frances Bleecker went on to have nine children. The Malbone miniature was in Philadelphia ca. 1896 and a color picture of it was used as the frontispiece of Anne Wharton Hollingsworth's book "Heirlooms in Miniature."
