  • Description:Frame is gilt metal, original. Rectangle of a young girl seated in a short dress holding a black and white dog. She has reddish brown hair cut to her ears.
  • History:Painted in Washington DC. The subject was the owner's first cousin, daughter of Zada Dutton Burdine and Roddy Burdine. Zada was the owner's mother, Dorothy's oldest sister. This miniature and (see) No.54 were given to the subject's and owner's grandmother, Lila Hart Dutton, who gave them to Helen Dutton Rodes, another sister of the subject's mother. C. J. Fox worked for many years around 1900 for the U. S. State Department as a painter of miniatures, usually working from photographs, which was the case for these miniatures.
